OIL MUSEUM

HISTORY

“Visiting this museum is living the dream of my father, Umberto. Furthermore, it is precisely because of the link with this special place that our products are called Museum. "
Flavio Turri

THE HISTORY

OF THE MUSEUM

Inaugurated in 1988, ours was the first museum in Italy dedicated to the history of oil. Born as a private collection, by the will of its founder it was then made accessible to the public. Today it houses four hundred and fifty historical pieces, all linked to the olive tradition. Each year the museum receives an average of 50,000 visitors from all over the world.

THE FOUNDER

Umberto Turri, was born in Grezzana (VR) in 1929. From an early age he learned the secrets of olive growing from his father, Mario Turri, a steward in a Venetian villa for a long time and in charge of managing the olive groves. As a boy, Umberto managed together with his brother a small oil mill in Valpantena, before moving to Bardolino, with his wife Teresita, in the 1960s. Here, he takes over an old oil mill and decides to give it new life, thus starting the history of our company. Always a lover of history, travel and olive growing, he managed to unite his passions, adding a historical collection, unique of its kind, to the production and retail activities.

THE IDEA

During their motorhome trips across Europe, Umberto and Teresita were impressed by the sight of historic pieces of the olive tradition, neglected and forgotten among courtyards, cellars and stables. Ancient presses, huge screws and gears of wooden crushers. Disused pre-industrial masterpieces of craftsmanship, abandoned under piles of rubble and then forgotten. Rare, often unique pieces that Umberto and Teresita decided to recover, restore and later exhibit, in what would become the first oil museum in Italy.

Really cute little museum, you can do it in 30-40 min max. The videos explaining the process of making olive oil are very interesting. The shop is a bit pricey but offers a wide variety of regional oils to buy. I would definitely recommend to go to the tasting station were a professional explains and lets you try different oils and aceto balsamico, a very nice surprise and helped us make the right choices.

It's so busy we couldn't even buy tickets so had to leave without a tour or buying anything unfortunately. Looks like a good stop if it's not too busy. Go early

Pretty good variety of oil and balsamic vinegar. Not all are amazing but they have many that are. The museum itself isn't very large at all and take maybe five minutes to go through. Overall worth the trip to try out a few new flavors and I guarantee you will come back a box of your favorites.

This is well worth a visit. In a very short time they provide a very informative education on Olive oil and how it is made both now and in the past. They have a few nicely done videos and many museum quality items from the history of Olive oil production. At the end you can sample many items and buy some if you like. Also note that the restroom is outside on the side of the building and they need to buzz you in from the front desk.
